Valentine's Day Potions Water Play

Can you stir up a love potion? This water play sensory bin is a fun and easy way to explore color sorting, patterning, measurement and more! 

Simply pour water in your play tray and color the water with food coloring! When ready add buttons, pompoms, foam shapes, acrylic ice rocks, kitchen tools, scoops and more. Then you are all ready for play!

Make recipe cards and encourage children to create the potions, practice sorting colors, measure different amounts of liquid, the possibilities are endless!

Free the Hearts 

Can your child use the tweezers to free the hearts? This activity is a fun and easy way for children to build fine motor skills as they play!

Simply pour valentine's themed rainbow rice in a PlayTray and add your hearts! Once ready take Mavalus tape and add it all over the tray to create a web. Then offer tweezers for children to free the hearts.

Ways to extend the play:
-Count how many hearts you free
-Create a heart pattern
-Match the colored hearts of the same together

Spin Art Hearts 

This is such a fun and easy process art activity for children to create unique Valentine hearts!

Fold a piece of paper in half and using scissors cut out the shape of half a heart. Tape the heart to the bottom of your salad spinner and add paint! Then spin! Once you are done spinning take your heart out to dry!

Once dry you can write messages for valentines.

Heart Balance STEAM Activity 

Can you balance the paper hearts to create a structure? This is a super fun and easy open needed activity for children to build hand eye coordination, practice fine motor skills and balance!

Simply take pieces of construction paper and cut strips of all lengths. Create a fold halfway that is sharp to be the bottom of your heart! Then bend the pieces in the middle to form a heart shape and staple. Each length of construction paper will create different sealed hearts! Then offer the hearts to practice balancing and begin stacking to create a unique structure!

 

Valentine's Day Loose Parts Tray

All you need:
 
-Coloured Foam
-Glass Jars
-Pipettes
-Small red cups
-Carnations
-Frozen Marker Lids, Pompoms and playdough lids
-Translucent stacking jars

Process Art Fizzy Valentine's Day Hearts

 

This activity is a great way to incorporate stem learning and creativity!

All you need:

-Baking Soda

-White vinegar

-Washable Watercolor Paint or Food Colouring

-Watercolour paper

-Spray bottle or pipettes

 

Step one: Cut the shape of a heart from watercolour paper and place it on a tray.

 

Step Two: In seperate paint cups place one scoop of baking soda and using either liquid watercolour paint or food colouring dye the baking soda and mix. Add drops until it reaches your desired colour and allow to dry! 

 

Step Three: Shake the coloured baking soda over your heart shapes!

 

Step Four: Pour white vinegar in a separate paint cup and using either a spray bottle or pipettes drop vinegar on the hearts and watch them fix!

 

Step Five: Leave to dry and then enjoy!

Loose Parts Hearts 

This activity is a fun way to allow children to explore patterns, colours, shapes and be creative! Simply fold a regular piece of paper in half and cut the shape of half a heart. Unfold your heart and place it on the table and then unfold the frame you have created! Place your loose parts in a tray and encourage children to start creating.

Step Two: Unfold the paper to show your heart.

Simply cut out the shape of hearts out of construction paper and place a variety of loose craft pieces in a tray and encourage children to create! 

Lacing Hearts 

This is a super fun activity to allow your child to explore open ended lacing and build key fine motor skills. They can choose to follow the outline or lace between holes to create a web of love!

All you need is yarn, a hole punch and a heart cut out!
-Allow your child to decorate the heart with loose craft pieces!
-Once complete, take a hole punch and create holes across your heart
-Cut a large piece of yarn and either demonstrate lacing or encourage your child to explore.

You can also encourage children to experiment with measuring by asking them how long of a piece of yarn do they need? Can you lace the whole piece?

Heart Line 

Can you sort the hearts from largest to smallest? This activity is a fun and crafty way to play and practice some early learning concepts like sorting, size, measurement, colours and more!

Simply cut hearts of all sizes and colours from construction paper and place a line of tape to act as your line of measurement!

Ways to extend the play:
-Sort the hearts by colour
-Measure the hearts with unifix cubes
-Count how many hearts of each colour you have
-How many hearts can you fit within the largest heart?

Paper Plate Heart Wreathes

Can you create a decorative heart wreath? This is such a fun and beautiful way to show love in your home in a crafty way!

 

All you will need:
-Construction paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Paper Plate
- Ribbon or yarn

 

Step one: Cut out a variety of sizes and colours of hearts from construction paper - we used Valentine's colours!


Step Two: Cut out the inner part of the paper plate, leaving the out rim intact.


Step Three: Begin randomly gluing hearts onto the paper plate until you feel like you have enough hearts on your heart wreath.


Step Four: Add a ribbon or piece of yarn to the back of the plate to hang the wreath.

Heart-o-saurus Craft

 

All you need:
-Construction paper
-Scissors
-Glue
-Wiggly eyes
-Assorted craft materials


Cut a large heart out of construction paper, and then cut it in half. You'll be able to create two dinosaurs from one heart!


Cut out several small triangles (spikes), 4 rectangles (legs), and a dinosaur head from a second piece of construction paper.


Onto the back of the half-heart, glue the spikes along the curved edge from the point of the heart, the legs to the flat edge, and the head to (what would be) the top of the heart.


Decorate your dinosaur with wiggly eyes and other assorted craft materials, like foam cut outs, gems, or glitter.
