Indigenous Life In Canada Sixties Scoop

Indigenous Life in Canada: Past, Present, Future - Sixties Scoop is part of a set of 32-page books produced by Red Line Editorial for Beech Street Books and edited by Marie Pearson. Designed for elementary students from grades 4 to 8 the books offer introductions to the history of Indigenous Peoples in the story of Canada. Sixties Scoop by Erin Nicks has six chapters. Chapter one discusses assimilation and the era of the Sixties Scoop when more than 20,000 Indigenous children were taken from their families and placed in government foster care and adopted throughout the world. Chapter two explains why the Sixties Scoop happened and the role of provincial social workers in this era. Chapter three, Loss of Identity is a discussion on survivors. Chapter four introduces the Adopt Indian Metis program. Lasting Effects of the Sixties Scoop are reviewed in chapter five as well as the trauma of suppressing identities and survivors wanting to know their biological parents. Chapter six, The Government’s Response, highlights what is being done to address these issues and the role of the TRC in this. The book contains simply written text illustrated with maps, charts, images and photos. Each book has brief sidebars of additional information about a topic as well as suggested framing questions to assist students in critical thinking. Includes an index, information about the author, additional resources and a glossary.  Grades 4-8

I love shopping here

I love shopping here for unique and interesting birthday presents. They offer free wrapping for gifts and the associate that helped me did a fantastic job of wrapping odd shaped items. She really took pride in the work she was doing.

Great for teachers

Great selection of educational toys, tools and books for kids. Great for teachers and parents alike. Staff are knowledgeable and compassionate. It could use a paintjob, it felt a bit like a warehouse with the bare walls and minimal colour.
